Marie Torkelson
I am proud to say that I am a former graduate of K-M! After receiving a B.S. in Art Education from St. Cloud State University, I 'returned to the nest' in 1999. Why did I become a teacher? My parents placed a high priority on the value of education. I guess my mother's dream of becoming a teacher became mine. Why did I become an art educator? Most certainly the head of our art department, Marilyn Fredrickson was influential as an excellent role-model and mentor. Many of her former students have gone on to pursue art-related careers as I did.
As a shared staff teacher at K-M I work with grades 7-12 and teach at both the Middle School and High School locations. It is a great joy for me to see the progress that students make from one grade level to another concerning their art making techniques and using their creative thinking skills.
Future professional goals will most assuredly find me seeking educational opportunities to improve my teaching skills in the classroom, and pursuing enriching art making experiences as I am a firm believer in reflective, lifelong learning.
