"Salutations means greetings. It's my fancy way of saying hello." - Charlotte A. Cavatica in Charlotte's Web

You can’t depend on your eyes when your imagination is out of focus. -Mark Twain

I'm Mrs. Walsh, an English teacher at Kasson-Mantorville High School as well as a senior class advisor, geocaching club advisor, and assistant speech coach. I've been teaching in the classroom since the fall of 2005, but it took me a few years to find my "home" here at Kasson in the fall of 2009, and I'm incredibly grateful that I did! My family calls Kasson home, and we bleed Blue!

I have taught a variety of courses here at KM, like Enriched English 10, Honors English 10, and English Applications. I currently teach Enriched English 11, College Writing, College Literature Human Diversity, and Interpersonal Communication.

I graduated from Winona State University with a Bachelor of Science in Communication Arts and Literature (Teaching) in May of 2004. I have taught all grade levels from 6th to 12th grade and a large variety of classes. Before coming to K-M, I taught three (non-consecutive) years in the Rochester Public School District and one year in the Alden-Conger School district.

I feel that a classroom should be an environment of respect as well as an environment of learning, including celebrating mistakes and offering redos. An e-learning environment shouldn't be any different. I strive to create lessons, activities, and assessments that appeal to all the learning styles found in each class section. I also strive to use technology as an educational tool in each class, especially to promote collaboration and discussion. One way I do that is by using Schoology in each class (it's like an educational Facebook)!  Each student will be given a code to access a page designed for each individual class on the first day fo class; this site will have all materials for class, quizzes, and online discussions.  Parents may also view this with their own access codes. If you are interested in one, please ask! Flipgrids are another of my favorite ways to promote discussion outside of the classroom.

My goal as an educator is to offer learning opportunities that make each student feel successful as well as offer real-world application.
My Purpose: I challenge students to be critical thinkers, empathetic beings, and open-minded communicators through exposure to a variety of literature and building relationships in the classroom; I encourage students to find their voices.
My Strengths: Input, Relator, Intellection, Competition, and Adaptability.
